Over the years, the Hollywood Sign has been the subject of numerous television profiles that outline its lively history, show the role of the Trust in preserving and protecting the landmark, and highlight its unique place in American entertainment life.

On the lighter side, this coverage also incidentally demonstrates the difficulty of getting physically to the Sign itself, even for authorized personnel. Two of the television pieces below (ABC and Huell Howser's "History of the Sign") depict hosts taking small tumbles while rappeling down the steep Mt. Lee hillside.

HISTORY OF THE SIGN
with Huell Howser

Sit back and enjoy this excellent hour long in-depth profile for California Public Television hosted by popular PBS host Huell Howser. He traces the history and lore of the iconic Hollywood Sign and takes his own visit to the Sign -- by rope down the side of treacherous Mt. Lee!

You will also see several one of a kind firsthand stories from people connected with the Sign over the years, plus reams of historic photographs, rare early footage, and more!

ABC TV Los Angeles
Eyewitness News

Watch as intrepid ABC-TV Eyewitness News reporter George Pennacchio takes an up close and personal tour of the Sign with Trustee Chris Baumgart. ABC helicopters were on hand to document his difficult hand over hand rope journey down the side of Mt. Lee to the Sign.

This piece shows in detail some of the security features of the Sign, including its infrared camera feeds to the LA City police force.

REELZ Television

Reelz TV reporters Mike Richards and Sam Rubin describe the colorful history of the Sign, including plenty of interesting footage and historical photos. Trustee Chris Baumgart is interviewed on Sign history and security.
